Canada, Nigerian Government; Igbo Group Takes A Swipe At Perpetuators Of Cyber Bullying, Threats To Life

The group…cautions against selective justice by Canada, Nigerian Government

by Beady Nnanna

An Igbo Group ……..has condemned several threats of Cyberbullying And threats To lives being championed by various individuals and groups against Nigerians more especially that of Igbos from the south-east of Nigeria presently and in the past is alarming.

Saying evil and injustice anywhere is injustice and evil everywhere, the group condemned the recent threat by one Amaka residing in Canada who publicly threatened to poison Yoruba and Edo people’s food wherever they encountered a response to such threat to Igbo’s lives on tiktok live.

The group called on the Canadian government to investigate the matter and the circumstances that led to it. Saying any action taken against Amaka without identifying previous cases as such will amount to selective justice from government and security agencies in Nigeria and overseas.

The group in her petition called for a unified, just and decisive approach to dealing with all forms of Cyberbullying, ethnic-based threats and hate speeches in Nigeria.

The petition read, “We the undersigned members of the Igbo Young group, hereby submit this petition to demand equal justice on the recent threat made by one Amaka in her response to a similar threat on TikTok live against her Igbo tribe by a Nigerian man based in Austria that Igbo children should be killed anywhere they are spotted, be it, London, USA, Germany etc.

This threatening statement has caused fear and concern within different communities in Nigeria as this kind of hate speech is absolutely unacceptable and deeply troubling, becoming a norm to threaten the Igbos, attack them and destroy their properties and business at the slightest provocation over the years.

We are dismayed by the selective nature of the responses from the Nigerian government towards these threats. Justice needs to be served equally without any form of bias or discrimination. We feel strongly that both incidents should be investigated thoroughly with appropriate legal actions taken against those responsible.

Furthermore, we are also troubled by similar disturbing statements made by individuals from Yoruba and Edo even hauses or we can say Nigerian communities on various social media platforms, calling for violence against Igbos and their children on different occasions and days.

These threats have gone unaddressed for far too long and have become a culture in which anyone can feel free to attack, threaten, destroy igbos business  or bully the Igbos without any questioning, arrest etc but when such statement comes from the Igbos, the Nigerian Government and authority involved are always quick to take actions, just like what Nigeria house of representative members displayed recently toward condemning Amaka action and pay no attention to the threat Amaka was responding to and other live threatening statement from many Nigerian and people in Authority against the Igbos

Such as ;

In 2015 many Hausa and Yorubas residing outside Nigeria threatened to kill Igbo people, particularly Dr Adeniran Abraham Ariyo a cardiologist based in Dallas called for an Igbo massacre and the Nigerian government, and the House of Representatives never made a statement or did they write to Dallas or Us Government just because the attack is to the Igbos

2, Tinubu’s Wife. Remi Tinubu, present first lady of Nigeria, Speaks As She Threatened To Banish Igbos From Lagos and inherit their properties, with impunity as she said “If you like record me.

3, MC Oluomo threatened Igbo voters ahead of the Lagos election during the 2023 general election, saying: If you no won vote for us, sit down for house” or will treat you like criminals which he lived up to as many Igbo were killed in Lagos during 2923 general election, they houses were burnt down business destroyed when Igbo insisted on justice Nigeria Police said it was just a joke.

4, Bayo Anounga Special Adviser on information and strategy to the president of Bola Ahmed Tinubu threatened Igbos with different derogatory statements and when confronted, he said, ‘I owe no one apology for ethnic slur against Igbos@

5, Bulkachuw Bauchi North Senatorial District at the National Assembly and one Isa Tafida Mafindi openly threatened the Igbos, the senator who backed President Muhammadu Buhari’s ‘civil war’ threat, said the Federal Government would have no choice but to clamp down on the Igbos.

9, Isima is still vibrating on social media threatening and labelling Igbos all these people and many more were not arrested or questioned Nigeria government looked the other way because the threat is to the Igbos,

10, An ultimatum telling  Igbo in the northern part of the country to flee their homes with no arrest or questioning

11, Buhari, the sitting president made a threat to Igbo’s lives, Igbo youth Wanted genocide like Nigeria’s civil war, and they would get it from me Buhari said same period he called them the dote.  12, present Vice President of Nigeria, Shetimma . Tinubu and ibukunke Amosun threatened the igbos

A spokesperson of the President-Bola Ahmed Tinubu  Bayo Onanuga has backed his comment asking Igbos never to interfere with politics in Lagos State.

Onanuga said he owes nobody any apology for asking Igbos never to interfere with the politics in Lagos State and no one questioned him.

These above threats were no arrest or questioning because is okay to threaten the Igbos.

We have concluded that After the Nigeria Government committed genocide against the Igbos during the Nigeria-Biafran war and nobody or organization was punished for such a gravel act, so people, Nigerians felt it okay to hit Igbos at will, destroy their properties, and houses and nothing happened, and emotionally/ physiologically abuse them which has been the norms of the days all these years, rather Nigeria Government have succeded in systematically silencing the Igbos.

Over the years, Igbos have been on the defensive side trying to negotiate peaceful coexistence which they have not gotten and not going to get with the unspoken agreement within the Nigerian government, but the young Igbos are about the position themselves on the offensive side, exactly what you saw Amaka did for the first time Igbos are responding with the same energy.

Therefore, The Young-Igbo-group, calls upon both the Nigeria government and the Canadian government to take urgent steps towards addressing the issues at hand with equal attention
