Governor Chukwuma Soludo-led Anambra State government has arrested and detained a popular native doctor in the state, Chukwudozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki.
The Popular celebrity ‘juju master’, Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki n’Oba, was picked up by men of Anambra State vigilante operatives, known as Agunechemba on Saturday according to a post on Soludo TV’s Facebook page.
The post said he was being detained for further investigation by the security agency.
“Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki n’Oba denies okeite and has been detained for further investigation by the Security Agency,” the post read.
He was arrested following allegations that he prepares juju for kidnappers who masquerade as Yahoo boys, terrorising the State.
While being interrogated by the Deputy Governor, Akwa Okuko said he stopped practising and preparing charms, and rituals popularly known as “Okeite” for his customers since the state government declared war against native doctors in the state.
Governor Soludo had during a function in the state in December 2024, declared war on native doctors following the increasing criminalities in the state.
The war against native doctors in the state generated panic and controversy among the native and traditional doctors across
Anambra state had enacted the Anambra State Homeland Security Law, 2025.
The new law imposes strict penalties on native doctors who prepare or administer charms, including the infamous ‘Odeshi’, ‘Okeite’, and ‘Mkpu Egbe’.
Offenders now face six years in prison, a N20 million fine, or both under the newly established law.
The law is aimed at curbing the misuse of supernatural practices, which have been implicated in various criminal activities across the state.
