The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is embracing a new leadership era with the appointment of Comptroller Benedict Oramalugo, PhD, as its new Customs Area Controller. He takes over following the retirement of his predecessor, Comptroller Kayode Rasheed Kolade, marking a significant transition in the command’s operations.
Comptroller Oramalugo officially assumed office on February 11, 2025, bringing a wealth of experience in border management and trade facilitation. His background positions him well to lead the command in addressing the dynamic challenges of customs operations and trade regulations.
A brief handing-over ceremony took place at the ECOWAS complex of the Seme-Krake Joint Border Post on Tuesday. During this event, Deputy Comptroller Enforcement, Istifanus Musa, who managed the command in the interim, formally welcomed Comptroller Oramalugo. Musa assured him of the officers’ full support and cooperation as he embarks on this new chapter.
In his inaugural address, Comptroller Oramalugo expressed commendation for the dedication and efforts of the command’s officers. He pledged to build upon the existing policy initiatives of the Comptroller General of Customs for the seamless implementation of the service’s mandate. A significant part of his vision includes maintaining an open-door policy, encouraging dialogue, and facilitating professional development among officers to enhance the command’s efficiency and effectiveness.
The new Area Controller took a moment to express his sincere gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the NCS management team for the opportunity to serve in this esteemed role.
Before this appointment, Comptroller Oramalugo served as the Customs Area Controller for the Oyo/Osun Command, where he left a remarkable legacy. His tenure was distinguished by multiple awards, including the Strategic Community Engagement for the Year, Service Excellence Performance, and the prestigious Outstanding Controller of the Year 2024 at the Comptroller General’s Awards in December 2024.
His leadership in Oyo/Osun was characterized by significant advancements in revenue generation and successful anti-smuggling operations.
As Comptroller Oramalugo embarks on his journey with the Seme Area Command, the expectations are high, and the opportunities abound. His extensive experience and commitment to fostering excellence will undoubtedly lead the command towards a more efficient and accountable future.
