In a proactive effort to enhance collaboration and operational effectiveness, Comptroller Benedict Oramalugo, PhD, the Customs Area Controller of Seme Area Command, recently undertook a series of courtesy visits to influential traditional leaders and security agencies in Badagry, Lagos State. This initiative, conducted from February 19 to 20, 2025, underscores the Command’s steadfast commitment to fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders, bolstering security, and facilitating seamless trade in the region.

During these visits, Comptroller Oramalugo paid respects to prominent figures, including the Oba Akran of Badagry and the Oba of Iberoko, recognizing the pivotal role that traditional institutions play in maintaining peace and stability. He emphasized the necessity of collaboration between Customs and local authorities to create a secure environment for legitimate trading activities.

In addition to engaging with traditional leaders, Comptroller Oramalugo also visited several key security agencies, such as the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, the Nigerian Army 243 RECCE Battalion Regiment, the Nigerian Police Division in Badagry, and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps. Discussions during these meetings focused on enhancing intelligence-sharing, improving border security, and developing a coordinated approach to combat smuggling and other transborder crimes.

Comptroller Oramalugo highlighted that effective collaboration with stakeholders is fundamental to the Command’s strategy for optimizing revenue generation, enhancing border security, and contributing to national development. He stated, “Our mission at Seme Area Command goes beyond revenue collection; it extends to ensuring national security and fostering economic growth. Strong partnerships with traditional institutions and security agencies are vital in achieving these objectives.”

He shared insights from his experience, explaining, “When I was posted to the Seme Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service, the CGC instructed me to engage with all sister agencies and seek synergy to combat smuggling effectively. I need your collaboration here at Seme Command to succeed. I seek your assurance that when we are facing challenges with smugglers, you will support us in our efforts.”

Comptroller Oramalugo expresses his determination to build strong relationships with other security agencies, aiming for success as he did in his previous postings. “We are all working for the Nigerian state,” he reiterated.
