“In the interest of public order and societal peace,” Oginni stated, “we want to clarify once again that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasia movement have been expelled from the NNPP. They no longer have the authority to act or speak on behalf of our party.”
He further explained that the memorandum of understanding between the NNPP and the Kwankwasia movement was terminated following the 2023 general elections. This agreement, which was signed by both Kwankwaso and Elder Buba Galadima as representatives of their respective groups, is no longer valid.
Oginni expressed concern over Kwankwaso and Galadima’s continued involvement in NNPP affairs, despite the termination of their agreement. He pointed out that a ruling from the Abia State High Court on November 1, 2024, officially ended the memorandum of understanding and mandated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to transfer the leadership of the NNPP to Dr. Aniebonam Boniface Okechukwu, the party’s Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Founder.
The NNPP urges the public, especially the people of Kano State, to dismiss any claims made by the Kwankwasia movement as false and misleading. Additionally, Oginni called on the President of Nigeria and other political parties, including the APC and PDP, to disregard any statements from Kwankwaso’s faction.
He concluded by reaffirming that the Senator and other members allegedly suspended by the Kwankwasia movement are legitimate and fully recognized members of the NNPP. The party’s leadership has expressed confidence in all its elected National Assembly members, including Senator Suleiman Abdulrahman Kawu Sumai, and maintains that the Kwankwasia movement has no constitutional authority to interfere in NNPP matters.
Oginni emphasized that the party would typically refrain from engaging with what they view as the misguided assertions from Kwankwaso’s political faction. However, he acknowledged the potential for public misunderstanding due to the persistent actions of the Kwankwasia group, which he claims does not respect the rule of law or public order.
