The Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), the leading maritime beat association, is set to host a crucial roundtable discussion focused on the reintroduced International Cargo Tracking Note (ICTN) by the Federal Government. This event will take place on February 27, 2025, at the MARAN Secretariat in Apapa.
According to a statement from the association, key presentations will be made by the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) regarding the ICTN. Additionally, stakeholders including the Shippers’ Association of Lagos State, the Importers’ Association of Nigeria, the Sea Empowerment Research Centre, and Dr. Segun Musa, Managing Director of Widescope Group, will engage in discussions to share insights and work towards finding common ground for the successful implementation of this policy.
MARAN President Godfrey Bivbere emphasized the significance of this roundtable, highlighting the urgent need to address the ongoing controversies surrounding the ICTN. He noted, “Since the announcement of the ICTN’s reintroduction, there has been considerable debate among both supporters and opponents, each defending their stance. This issue has created divisions within the maritime industry. As Nigeria’s leading maritime association, MARAN is committed to uniting all parties to resolve this matter and advance our sector, which is vital to the nation’s economy.”
