Umo Eno, the governor of Akwa Ibom, has pointed fingers at “political detractors” for his daughter’s recent outburst against him. The incident came to light through a viral video featuring Jane Ufot, Eno’s daughter, where she appears to accuse her father of “sacrificing” her late mother, Patience Umo Eno.
Patience Eno passed away on September 27, 2024, after a prolonged illness. In the widely circulated clip, Ufot pleads, “Daddy, please. Let us talk before this thing destroys. I’m not a sacrifice, mummy was, but I’m not.”
She then turns to her mother’s memory and says, “Grandpa, do you want them to kill us? Do you want them to die like my brother and baby brother died?” She adds a sombre warning: “If I die today or my daughter dies… if we die because God is exposing the truth, so be it. But my blood will not go scot free.”
In response to these serious allegations, Eno addressed the issue on Saturday, suggesting that the timing of the video raises suspicion. He explained that it was recorded shortly after his wife’s passing, and attributed his daughter’s emotional outburst to the trauma of losing her mother.
“We are in political times, so you expect more of that,” Eno said. “My family is intact, and the incident she referenced happened immediately after my wife died last year.” He questioned why the video is surfacing now, just before the second anniversary of his wife’s death, suggesting that detractors could be behind its release.
Eno emphasised that his family remains united and appealed for understanding. “The pressure children face when they lose a loved one can be overwhelming. I urge the public not to dredge up sad memories. It’s enough that I’ve lost my wife, and I pray she rests peacefully. I won’t be distracted — I am focused on serving the people of Akwa Ibom.”
