Several Nigerian lawmakers are defecting from the PDP and LP to the APC ahead of the 2027 elections. Ten Akwa Ibom NASS members, including Senators Ekong Sampson and Aniekan Bassey, plus YPP member Emmanuel Ukpongudo, are joining Governor Umo Eno in the APC. Eno recently switched from PDP to APC, followed by the defection of two senators from Edo and Nasarawa.

Meanwhile, the APC is actively recruiting more PDP governors, aiming to consolidate power across Nigeria. Akwa Ibom State’s legislature appears to have largely transitioned, with most members supporting the move, driven by positive views of President Tinubu’s government. Yesterday PDP in Lagos state collapsed its structure for Tinubu as they all joined APC led by Jandor.

In addition, Edo’s Senator Neda Imasuen plans to leave the Labour Party for APC, citing disarray, while Nasarawa’s Wadada is set to follow after disagreements with his former party’s leadership.

This wave of defections signals a significant shift, giving APC a commanding 23 states, leaving PDP with just 10. The political landscape is heating up as more governors and lawmakers consider switching alliances in the run-up to the next elections.
