President Tinubu, In a candid address to the nation during a joint session of the National Assembly in Abuja on Democracy Day, President Bola Tinubu made a striking statement: he takes pleasure in seeing opposition parties in disarray and has no intention of assisting them in organising themselves.

Addressing concerns about political stability and internal party cohesion, Tinubu remarked, “Political parties fearful of members leaving may be better served by examining their internal processes and affairs rather than fearfully conjuring up demons that do not exist. For me, I would say try your best to put your house in order. I will not help you do so. It is, indeed, a pleasure to witness you in such disarray.”I like it he said.

The president’s comments come amid recent defections into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which have sparked debates about the country’s political landscape. However, Tinubu was quick to dismiss fears that Nigeria is heading towards a one-party state.

He clarified, “A one-party state is not in the offing. Nor should it ever be. That said, we would be guilty of political malpractice if we closed the door on those from other parties who now seek to join the APC. I sincerely welcome our newest members from Delta and Akwa Ibom States, led by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Pastor Umo Eno, along with other members of this National Assembly.”

In his address, Tinubu emphasised the importance of embracing political diversity, noting, “We must welcome and accept the diversity and number of political parties just as we celebrate the diversity of our population. Our goal should never be to eliminate political competition, but to ensure that such competition benefits the national interest. This can be achieved by working across the political aisle whenever possible, fostering cooperation for the good of Nigeria.”

The president’s stance underscores a commitment to maintaining a vibrant, competitive political system while promoting unity and collaboration across party lines.
