Is Shettima Out? VP’s Future in Doubt for 2027 As Four Govs, Lawmakers Jostle For Shettima’s Position (Full List)

Big changes might be coming to Nigeria’s political scene. There’s a lot of talk that Vice President Kashettima Shettima might not be President Bola Tinubu’s running mate in the next election in 2027.

Sources inside the government and the ruling APC party are saying that people are already planning for the future. Several powerful groups are trying to get their candidates in line for the Vice President spot.

Apparently, four northern governors – Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Muhammadu Yahaya (Gombe), Uba Sani (Kaduna), and Dikko Radda (Katsina) – are the main contenders to replace Shettima.

One source said that the governor of Katsina is interested, and things are getting competitive as everyone in the North tries to gain more political power.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abass, and the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, are also being talked about. They both represent influential groups within the APC party.

Even though Shettima sees President Tinubu regularly, some people in the party aren’t happy. They say he hasn’t shown he can lead on his own.

One APC official said that while Shettima can easily meet with the President, he hasn’t really gained Tinubu’s trust. The official said that the Vice President seems to just follow orders and hasn’t taken the lead on important issues.
