Tragedy at Borno State Fish Market: Suicide Bombing Suspected
A devastating incident occurred on Friday night at a bustling fish market in Borno state, northeastern Nigeria. Police report that a suspected female suicide bomber detonated explosives, resulting in the deaths of at least 12 people and injuries to many more.
According to police spokesperson Nahum Kenneth Daso, the woman, wearing a hidden bomb, infiltrated the crowded market before detonating it. The injured have been rushed to the hospital for treatment. Local sources indicate that the number of injured may be as high as 30.
This tragedy hits particularly hard as Borno state has been struggling with insurgency for 16 years, mainly due to the actions of the Boko Haram Islamist group. The ongoing violence has already caused thousands of deaths and displaced millions of people in the state.
