Nigeria Customs Service Warns Public About Online Scams

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has issued a warning regarding the increasing prevalence of online scams falsely associated with the Service. These scams often involve fake recruitment opportunities and fraudulent auction offers, designed to deceive unsuspecting members of the public. The NCS urges citizens to exercise caution and verify any information received through unofficial channels.

Assistant Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, the National Public Relations Officer, highlighted the concerning trend of criminals impersonating senior Customs officials on social media platforms. These individuals create fake accounts using the names and images of prominent figures within the NCS, falsely claiming to offer employment or auction opportunities. The NCS has made it clear that it does not conduct recruitment or auctions through social media, and any such claims should be regarded as fraudulent.

In a recent case, the NCS arrested Mr. Okoli Okana Boniface for allegedly attempting to manipulate the recruitment process while falsely claiming to be an aide to the First Lady. This arrest demonstrates the Service’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of its operations and its zero-tolerance policy on fraud.

The NCS advises the public to rely solely on the Service’s official communication channels for accurate information regarding recruitment and auctions. Any messages or offers from unverified sources should be disregarded. The Nigeria Customs Service remains steadfast in its commitment to identifying, exposing, and prosecuting individuals who attempt to compromise its operations through deceptive practices.
