The event, themed “The Political Economy of Livestock Development in Nigeria: Challenges and Prospects,” brought together academic and political leaders to discuss the complexities facing Nigeria’s livestock sector.

Jega pointed out that the rising tensions and clashes between farmers and herders are symptomatic of deeper issues such as land pressure, climate change, and poor governance over natural resources. These challenges require comprehensive sector reforms to ensure sustainable development and peace.

He underscored the importance of collaboration among key actors—namely the National Assembly, security agencies, and state governments—in rolling out effective reforms.

“President Tinubu has demonstrated the willingness and capacity to resolve this crisis,” Jega stated. “What remains crucial now is the support of stakeholders across the board—especially the legislative arms, security institutions, and regional authorities—to implement evidence-based solutions that can turn the tide.”

As Nigeria continues to seek lasting solutions to its livestock-related conflicts, Jega’s remarks highlight a cautious optimism that with collective effort and strategic reforms, peace and progress in the sector are achievable.
