The Nigeria Customs Service at Tincan Island Port has announced a historic revenue milestone for the first half of 2025, collecting a total of N747,079,233,259.91. This figure represents an impressive surge of N171,719,786,247.68 compared to the same period in 2024, showcasing a significant growth of nearly 29.85%.

Stellar Revenue Performance

According to Comptroller Frank Onyeka, the Customs Area Controller of Tincan Port, the port achieved 98.03% of its projected revenue target for the first half of 2025. He highlighted the month-by-month breakdown, noting key achievements:

• January 2025: N116.4 billion, up from N88.4 billion in January 2024.
• February: N103.3 billion, surpassing the previous year’s N100.3 billion.
• March-May: Consistent increases with collections of N128.3 billion, N145 billion, and N128.4 billion, respectively, each exceeding their targets.
• June: N125.7 billion, a notable rise from N83.2 billion in the same month of 2024.

The Command processed 3,450 Single Goods Declarations (SGDs) under the new Bodogwu clearance system within this period, successfully exiting 2,749 entries. Additionally, a total of 282 vessels reported at the port, carrying a diverse array of bulk commodities like wheat, malt, chemicals, sugar, aluminium nitride, and general cargo.

Anti-Smuggling and Security Operations

In the fight against illicit activities, the Tincan Port recorded commendable progress. The Command confiscated illicit drugs valued at over N8 billion, including Cannabis indica, crystal meth, and other narcotics, which were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Further, thorough inspections led to the discovery of arms, ammunition, and military equipment concealed within a container transporting used vehicles. Items recovered include pistols, live and blank ammunition, magazines, handcuffs, and a flashlight, all handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS). These efforts underscore the Port’s unwavering commitment to national security and inter-agency collaboration.

Stakeholder Engagement and Transparency

The Command has maintained a proactive approach in engaging stakeholders—terminal operators, industry leaders, government agencies, customs agents, and civil society—fostering dialogue that promotes transparency, effective policy communication, and trade facilitation. Regular briefings and open forums have been instrumental in keeping the public informed about port activities.

Recognition and Future Outlook

Comptroller Onyeka conveyed his congratulations to the new Chairman of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Council, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, hailing his appointment as a divine victory. He also expressed gratitude to all partners and pledged to sustain a conducive environment for trade and security.

He urged officers and personnel to uphold professionalism and bravery, emphasising that their collective efforts are key to the continued success of Tincan Port.
