The 10th Senate has issued a formal reaction following the recent judgment by the Federal High Court in Abuja, which nullified the six-month suspension imposed on Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan of Kogi Central. Justice Binta Nyako, in her ruling on Friday, ordered the Senate to reinstate the embattled senator, describing her suspension as excessive.

The Senate’s position, as outlined by Adaramodu, is that the chamber will only reconvene to deliberate on the matter once the senator fulfils the court’s requirements. He explained:

“The onus is no more on us now; it is already on her doorstep to go and apologise. Once she does that, then the Senate will sit and determine how to deal with her matter.”

He stressed that the initial response from the Senate would be to observe whether Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan takes the necessary steps for redress. Only after her compliance will the Senate consider reinstating her or deciding on further disciplinary actions.
