According to reports from Daily Sun, Atiku’s supporters believe he holds the financial strength to secure victory in any primary process, whether through direct or indirect methods. They are confident that resources can be mobilised effectively from all six geopolitical zones to back his bid.

In May, Atiku’s camp reportedly proposed offering Obi the vice-presidential slot on the coalition ticket, an offer that Obi has yet to give a definitive response to. A source close to the coalition explains, “It would be in the best interest of the South East if Obi agrees to be Atiku’s running mate, just like in 2019. If he does, Atiku would run for one term and hand over to him, which could guarantee the South East a shot at the presidency after decades of waiting.”

Meanwhile, Obi’s supporters are pushing for a consensus arrangement aimed at ensuring the South East produces Nigeria’s next president. They argue that such an agreement would be a firm demonstration of the coalition’s commitment to fairness and regional balance.

Sources suggest that Obi, who previously ran as the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, remains hopeful that coalition members will agree on a consensus where he could emerge as the party’s candidate. During a recent interaction on X (formerly Twitter), Obi indicated that if the coalition offered him a one-term arrangement, he would accept it and dedicate himself to moving the country forward.

“Obi has left his options open,” a close associate revealed. “While no one can say for certain whether he will accept the VP position or run for president, he has positioned himself strategically to respond to whatever direction the coalition takes.”

Despite these internal negotiations, the Obidient Movement continues to assert that Obi’s appeal extends beyond regional and ethnic boundaries, positioning him as the strongest candidate to challenge President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor.
