To combat illegal activities, the Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Badagry, Lagos State, successfully intercepted seven fibre boats transporting multiple bags of foreign parboiled rice along the Badagry–Porto-Novo creek.

The operation took place on Saturday as part of ongoing efforts to curb smuggling activities that threaten Nigeria’s economic stability. Naval personnel stationed at the FOB responded swiftly when they spotted the boats in the creek. Faced with a show of force, the individuals on board abandoned their vessels and fled into the water, leaving behind their cargo. Several persons were apprehended at the scene, most of whom are believed to be low-level operatives known as “boat boys.” These individuals are often hired by larger smuggling networks to facilitate the illegal transportation of goods across borders.
