Man Stabs Colleague to Death in Lagos Over Money Dispute, suspect arrested

Balogun Market suspect under hospital arrest — Police

One person was killed and several others injured on Wednesday during a clash between groups of market runners at the popular Balogun Market on Lagos Island.

The Balogun Market crisis was said to have started as an argument between two runners, Sodiq Ibrahim and Ebuka Adindu. The disagreement escalated into a bloody fight, leading to Ibrahim’s death after being stabbed by Adindu, whom Sodiiq also inflicted injuries on.

A social media user, @JackFleet, who first raised the alarm on X.com, wrote, “There’s a fracas going on presently in Lagos Island, Mandillas to be precise.

“Two guys were fighting, and it resulted in the death of one of them. Right now, street urchins have taken the law into their hands, stabbing innocent people on the street.”

Reacting to the post, the command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, dismissed the claim that miscreants had not taken over the area.

“Your claim of street urchins taking over the street is false. Please do not cause unnecessary panic. DPOs Lion Building and Ebute-Ero are currently on the ground with their men, maintaining the restored peace.

Our correspondent gathered that the incident quickly degenerated, with miscreants from both groups throwing bottles, stones, and other dangerous objects, causing panic among traders.

Many shops were hurriedly closed, while the fight spread to nearby markets around Breadfruit Street, Martins, and Oluwole

He confirmed that Adindu is currently under arrest at the hospital and will be prosecuted once discharged.
