The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State views with utmost dismay and righteous indignation the recent advertisement released by Bokku Mart which irresponsibly employed the derogatory phrase “without any Omo Igbo cheating me.” This statement is not only deeply offensive but a reckless assault on the integrity, dignity, and industrious reputation of the Igbo people, a tribe whose sweat, skill, and enterprise have helped build the commercial backbone of Nigeria.

In a multiethnic nation still striving for harmony and unity, such divisive and tribalistic messaging is both insensitive and dangerous. The Igbo nation has over the decades stood as a symbol of resilience, innovation, and peace-loving coexistence across all parts of Nigeria. It is therefore shocking that a corporate organization would stoop so low as to weaponize ethnic prejudice for commercial attention. This act represents a blatant disregard for the principles of equality, mutual respect, and social responsibility expected of any brand operating within Nigeria’s diverse society.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State hereby calls on Bokku Mart to issue an immediate and unreserved public apology to the Igbo people and to all Nigerians who believe in fairness and unity. The said advertisement must be withdrawn from all media channels and the management must take corrective actions to ensure that such a shameful error in judgment never occurs again. Corporate organizations must understand that Nigeria’s diversity is her strength, not a marketing tool for mockery or division.

We reiterate that Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State will always rise in defense of the collective image and identity of Ndigbo anywhere in the world. Respect for cultural diversity and mutual understanding is the foundation of national coexistence and it must be protected at all costs. Any brand that dares to undermine these values will meet the full moral and civic resistance of our people.
