Gunmen Attack Abia Governor’s Advance Team Near Imo AirpoRt

Three members of Abia State Governor Alex Otti’s advance team were attacked on Tuesday morning by unidentified gunmen near Sam Mbakwe Airport in Owerri, Imo State.

The attack happened along the Umuowa–Ihite junction road, just a short distance from the airport. The team was on its way to the airport for official duties when gunmen, believed to be on the run, opened fire on their vehicle.

Governor Otti’s Chief Press Secretary, Njoku Ukoha, confirmed the incident in a statement. He explained that the officers were part of an advance team and that the governor himself was nowhere near the scene.

According to him, no one was killed or injured.

“The public should note that Governor Otti’s convoy was not involved, and no lives were lost,” the statement said.

As of the time this report was published, the Imo State Police Command had not yet released an official response.
