Residents of the Bum community in Chugwi, Vwang District, Jos South Local Government Area, Plateau State, were thrown into mourning as a deadly attack disrupted New Year celebrations. The incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. on December 31, 2025, just as residents were preparing to welcome 2026.

A statement from Rwang Tengwong, National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youths Moulder-Association (BYM), shared with journalists via the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) WhatsApp platform, said armed militants or bandits stormed the community, unleashing violence on unsuspecting residents.

The BYM statement had been shared on the OPEP and Police Command WhatsApp platforms.
