It was a moment of gratitude, celebration, and reflection as officers, stakeholders, and guests gathered for the Thanksgiving and send-forth ceremony of DCC Onyemachi Beatrice Uzorma, FSI, Officer-in-Charge of the Female Custodial Facility, following her promotion to the rank of Controller of Corrections.

Speaking at the event, the current ACG Jude Agboje described the Officer-in-Charge as a very disciplined, professional, and proactive officer, even within the few months he had worked with her. He emphasised that these are the kind of officers the Correctional Service needs now and promised to make recommendations at the appropriate quarters.

The Controller of Corrections, Lagos State Command, George Daramola, praised Deputy Controller Onyemechi for her confidence, professionalism, and pride in her work. He commended her for representing the Nigerian Correctional Service excellently and promised to recommend and support her in her new office as Controller of Corrections, which she had just assumed.

In her remarks, DCC Uzorma expressed deep appreciation to God for His faithfulness and guidance throughout her career. She described the promotion as a call to greater service and responsibility, accepted with humility, dedication, and renewed commitment to the ideals of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

She extended heartfelt gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the Honourable Minister of Interior, and the Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuchu, N.MFR, mni, for approving and facilitating her elevation. According to her, the confidence reposed in her leadership has strengthened her resolve to serve with diligence and integrity.

DCC Onyemechi also acknowledged the vital roles played by senior officers, including the former Assistant Controller-General of Corrections, now DCG non-custodial Ope Fatiniku mni, the Assistant Controller-General of Corrections in charge of Zone A, Lagos, Jude Agboje, and the Controller of Corrections, Lagos State Command, George Daramola, whose mentorship, cooperation, and leadership created an enabling environment for success.

Reflecting on her tenure as Officer-in-Charge of the Female Custodial Facility, she praised the dedication and professionalism of officers, staff, and students under her leadership. She noted that teamwork, discipline, and a shared sense of purpose helped transform challenges into achievements while upholding the values of the Service.

She also commended stakeholders, volunteers, and partners for their consistent support, particularly in advancing inmate welfare and rehabilitation, describing their contributions as essential to humane and effective corrections management.

The send-forth ceremony was both emotional and inspiring, marking the end of a productive chapter and the beginning of a new phase of higher responsibility. Many speakers described Controller Beatrice Onyemachi Uzorma as a disciplined leader, mentor, mother figure, joy giver, and role model whose impact will continue to be felt beyond her current posting.

Some inmates expressed sadness over her departure and concern about who the next Officer-in-Charge would be. In response, she reassured them that the incoming officer would treat them well, as long as they remained open, respectful, and willing to listen. She cautioned them that no two leaders behave the same and encouraged them to keep an open mind and warmly welcome the new Officer-in-Charge.

Staff, visitors, and partners commended her for the facility transformation, orderliness, and peace established since she assumed office.

Her promotion stands as a testament to years of dedicated service and as a source of inspiration to officers, especially women in uniform, across the Nigerian Correctional Service.
