Operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘A’, have arrested a 71-year-old man in connection with drug trafficking. The suspect was caught with 6.4 kg of cocaine and methamphetamine valued at N2.35 billion along the Lagos-Abidjan corridor.

The unit also intercepted 1,540 kg of cannabis indica, popularly known as “Ghanaian loud,” along with several other contraband items, including over 15 trailer loads of smuggled rice.

Comptroller Gambo Aliyu announced that the unit’s operations are focused on fighting economic sabotage and illegal trafficking. According to him, the unit has thwarted 473 smuggling attempts in the last eight weeks through improved intelligence sharing and collaboration.

As part of these efforts, the unit launched “Operation Hawk,” a special operation aimed at disrupting trafficking networks along major routes.

The FOU also reported a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N5.5 billion from its seizures. The unit is enhancing its operations with modern technology and is preparing to move to a new headquarters to boost efficiency.

The seized narcotics have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation.
