On May 30, 2026, suspected terrorists abducted Major General Rabe Abubakar (retired) and his wife in Katsina State, Nigeria. The couple was travelling to celebrate Eid al-Adha when their vehicle came under attack.

The driver was shot but managed to escape and raise the alarm.

According to the defence headquarters, intelligence assets have been deployed, and troops are working tirelessly to secure the safe rescue of the retired military officer and his wife. Local police, led by Commissioner Ali Umar Fage, have also reinforced efforts at the scene.

The incident highlights the persistent security challenges in Nigeria, even as military operations continue against armed groups across the country.
