South African singer Tyla has pulled Lagos off the schedule for her upcoming “I Pop” world tour after Nigerian fans pushed back online.

The Grammy winner announced her tour dates on Monday, and the original lineup included a Lagos show set for December 22, along with stops in Europe, North America, and South Africa.

But the news didn’t sit well with many Nigerians. People took to social media to question why the singer would perform in Nigeria while reports of renewed xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa were still making headlines. The backlash soon revived old tensions between the two countries, with some fans calling for a boycott of the Lagos concert.

Not everyone agreed, though. Others argued that entertainment shouldn’t be dragged into diplomatic disputes, and that musicians shouldn’t be blamed for political or social conflicts.

Some well-known figures also chimed in. Media personality Do2dtun questioned the promoters behind the planned Lagos show, while activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore urged Nigerians to direct their frustrations at political leaders instead of the artist.

Tyla and her management never publicly responded to the criticism. But a quick check on the official ticketing platform showed the Lagos show had quietly disappeared from the list of tour dates.

The updated schedule now only lists the remaining international stops — including two South African shows in Cape Town on January 4 and Johannesburg on January 9.

So far, there’s been no word on whether the Lagos concert is cancelled for good or might be rescheduled later
