The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has won the Commonwealth Environment and CSR Gold Award for its Customs Cares initiative. The recognition came on July 31, 2026, in Glasgow, Scotland.

This award honours organisations that deliver measurable, community-driven impact aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Under Customs Cares, the NCS has improved education, healthcare, food security, and environmental sustainability — reaching over 10 million Nigerians across 12 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Deputy Comptroller-General Timi Bomodi called the recognition a pivotal moment in the service’s transformation, noting that true value comes from improving lives and building community trust. The initiative is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The award also highlighted the innovative Hub-and-Spoke Community Activation Model used by Customs Cares. It reinforces the NCS’s commitment to sustainable development alongside its traditional customs duties.

Speaking at the event, Governor Muthomi Njuki of Kenya emphasised the importance of global partnerships in tackling climate challenges.
