The Lagos State Police Command has denied claims that officers used tear gas on pensioners during a protest at Alausa, calling the allegation false and insisting that no tear gas was deployed.

The denial comes after social media posts and images circulated showing what appeared to be police teargassing the crowd. Police, however, attributed those visuals to artificial intelligence manipulation.

The protest was held to demand unpaid pensions and adjustments, highlighting a long-running dispute between retired public servants and the Lagos State government.

According to police, about 500 pensioners took part in the demonstration peacefully and dispersed without any incident after meeting with government representatives.

Meanwhile, the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) condemned the alleged police actions, describing them as inhumane. The group urged the state government to resolve the pension issue transparently and without delay, and called for an investigation into what actually happened during the protest.
