The violence unfolding in Kano State is no longer a distant statistic — it has clawed right into the heart of local leadership.

In recent days, armed men stormed Rogo Local Government Area and abducted Alhaji Abdullahi Fanka, the area’s APC Chairman, in a brazen daylight-style raid that has left the community reeling. But the attackers did not stop there: two residents who dared to step forward and intervene were brutally gunned down on the spot, their bodies a chilling warning to anyone who dares to resist.

The pain cuts even deeper because this is not an isolated incident. Just days earlier, a strikingly similar tragedy unfolded in neighbouring Bebeji LGA, where the APC Chairman, Alhaji Garba Buba, and a resident named Sulaiman Zunduma lost their lives in another violent assault.

Community leaders now speak in hushed, trembling tones of a state under siege.  Reports of kidnappings are multiplying by the week — tragically including the abduction of the Sarkin Noman Kano himself, who was fortunate enough to be rescued, but whose ordeal underscores just how no one — no matter how prominent — is safe.

The Federal Government has promised action, unveiling plans for a comprehensive five-year defence and security strategy in the wake of these attacks. But for the families left grieving in Rogo and Bebeji, five-year plans offer little comfort tonight.  The urgent question burning in every heart is simple: how many more leaders must be murdered and how many more kidnapped before our communities can sleep in peace?

Insecurity in Kano is no longer a headline. It is a daily terror. And the nation watches — and waits — for a response that matches the scale of the suffering.
