The tragic killing of an Igbo trader in Ogun State has sparked strong condemnation from the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide. The group has issued a stern call on the Ogun State Government to ensure justice is served for the victim’s family.

The incident involves Blessing Eze, a woman trader at Ifo Market in Ogun, who reportedly lost her life after an encounter with a gang believed to have masqueraded as government officials. According to reports, Blessing was stabbed in the chest by the armed group, resulting in her death. The alleged motive behind the attack was her not paying a N1,500  levy for ifo touts to celebrate their  Edi-mubara festival on time, which is supposedly imposed on traders at the market.

Reacting to the shocking news, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, demanded transparency and action from authorities. He called on the Ogun State Government to clarify the circumstances surrounding her death and to swiftly identify and apprehend those responsible.

“We need to understand why she was killed and hold those behind this gruesome act accountable,” Okwu emphasised. “What steps have been taken to bring justice to her family? Have the perpetrators been arrested? It is high time the government responds decisively.”

He also urged the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to personally oversee the investigation, assuring that justice must be pursued without delay. “We are calling on the IGP to take over the probe. This is the only way to ensure fairness and justice for Blessing’s family,” he added.

This tragic event underscores the ongoing concerns about safety and fair treatment for Nigerians, especially members of the Igbo community, in parts of the country. The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council has promised to stand firm until justice is fully achieved.
