The Ojora of Ijora and Iganmu, Oba AbdulFatai Oyegbemi, has removed six chiefs from their positions because they attended a Labour Party campaign. The campaign was the launch of the Labour Party in the Apapa area of Lagos State.

The Oba said the chiefs broke the rules of the palace by going to the political rally and pretending to be him there, which is against tradition.

The six chiefs who were affected are:

• Chief Lateef Ojora (Bale Alaba Oro)
• Chief Saliu Biliamin (Bale Alafia Dodoro)
• Chief Taiwo Hassan (Bale Oke Ira)
• Chief Idris Ojora (Bale Abule Kere)
• Chief Hakeem Oseni (Bale Mosafejo Amukoko)
• Chief Sule Balogun (Balogun of Abule Kere)

This action was taken after a meeting at the palace on Monday, where the Oba made it clear that what the chiefs did was not acceptable.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Oba explained that the chiefs acted without his knowledge and showed a lack of respect for tradition. He said, “No chief is allowed to make decisions or act on their own, without his permission. They are here to represent me and protect our traditions,” and it is our collective effort to protect our traditions.

The removal of these six chiefs shows the Oba’s determination to keep order and discipline in his kingdom. During the meeting, he also praised the government of Bola Tinubu for the development projects happening in Ojora Land and said he supports the government’s efforts to grow and improve the area.

However, the Oba emphasised the importance of honesty and teamwork between traditional rulers and politicians. He reminded all chiefs to remember their roles and responsibilities as members of the Ojora Kingdom.
