The Labour Party has issued a strong warning to Peter Obi  regarding the ongoing political coalition and the often-quoted slogan, “New Nigeria is Possible.” The party describes this phrase as a mere illusion, warning that it cannot be genuine as long as the coalition is composed of old, recycled, and frustrated politicians desperate to cling to power.

Spokesperson Ifoh criticised the coalition members, revealing that many of those who mismanaged Nigeria over the years have come together in this alliance. He emphasised that these are politicians whose track records do not inspire hope for true change. According to Ifoh, “Desperate politicians cannot be the architects of a new Nigeria.”

He also raised concerns about covert meetings, noting, “We are aware of late-night meetings between Peter Obi and some of our members, trying to persuade them to join his new party. Meanwhile, some have refused to defect, reaffirming loyalty to the Labour Party.”

The party has made it clear that it is not part of the coalition and has given any members involved in such alliances a 48-hour ultimatum to resign from the Labour Party formally. “Labour Party stands firm against dual allegiances and deceptive individuals,” Ifoh stated. “We will not compromise our integrity by allowing members with one foot in our party and another elsewhere. There are those claiming loyalty in the morning and switching sides by evening.”

Ifoh pointed out that nearly 70 percent of Nigeria’s youthful population is exhausted by the old political order, tired of gerontocrats controlling their future. The “dream of a new Nigeria” that many young Nigerians envision cannot materialise from the current coalition, which he describes as opportunistic and power-hungry.

He reaffirmed the Labour Party’s commitment to leading Nigeria toward that future, stating, “The only pathway to the Nigeria our youth desire is through the Labour Party. We are ready to steer the nation along that trajectory.”

In conclusion, Ifoh urged all party members to stay loyal and maintain the integrity of the party structure as Nigeria approaches future elections, emphasizing unity and focus in the pursuit of genuine change.
