The Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Dr. Mojeed Alabi Balogun, recounted his eight-year journey at the helm, emphasising his commitment to transparency and development. During the event, he boldly stated that he had never taken a loan to fund any of the projects undertaken under his leadership.

Balogun commended the collective efforts of staff, management, and the residents of Ikeja, noting that their cooperation was fundamental to the success recorded over the years.

One of the highlights of his tenure, according to him, has been the impressive growth in education within the council. He expressed pride in his contributions to advancing education and knowledge, which include:

• Distributing free exercise books, branded as Iwe Mojeed, to all public schools in Ikeja.
• Constructing a new block of classrooms at State Primary School, Onilekere.
• Building the administrative section at the same school.
• Upgrading the physical infrastructure of primary schools in Ikeja.
• Providing modern furniture, including chairs, tables, and desks, to enhance learning environments.
• Rehabilitating classrooms at Anifowoshe Primary School.
• Covering overhead costs for public school teachers in the area.
• Launching free adult literacy classes with free learning materials.
• Organising regular free vocational training programs.
• Distributing hand-wash stations to all Ikeja public primary schools to promote hygiene and health.

Apart from educational development, Balogun stressed the importance of health in enhancing productivity and societal well-being. He pointed out that a sound mind and good health are essential for active and effective service, emphasising the need to prioritise the health and well-being of the community.

As he wraps up his remarkable tenure, Balogun’s leadership record reflects a steadfast commitment to progress, transparency, and community welfare.

• Implementing sustainable development initiatives across all Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in Ikeja.
• Producing and mass-distributing face masks and nose covers to residents in Ikeja and all PHCs.
