The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) reaffirms its unwavering dedication to continuous capacity building with a significant milestone. During the graduation ceremony of the Senior Executive Course in Complex Customs Operations, held on Friday, July 11th, 2025, at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) in Lagos, the leadership emphasised the importance of advanced professional development.

In his address, the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, described the training as “a different level” of professional growth essential for preparing senior officers to navigate the complexities of modern global trade, security, and Customs administration. He remarked, “We have structures for basic training, refresher courses, and command and staff college programmes, but this is a different level. This program exposes our officers to international best practices and the evolving dynamics of global trade, directly impacting their daily operations.”

CGC Adeniyi also highlighted plans for a comprehensive review of the program before launching a second batch. He explained, “We will evaluate what worked, what didn’t, and what components can be added or removed. This assessment will guide us on when to schedule the next cohort, ensuring this training remains impactful and relevant.”

Addressing the graduates, Adeniyi praised their achievements, noting, “These accomplished customs officers are the future of the Service. I expect they will serve as ambassadors of positive change and innovation within the Nigerian Customs Service.”

The Director-General of NIIA, Professor Eghosa Osaghae, commended the Customs Service’s investment in human capital and emphasized the broader implications for Nigeria’s development. He remarked, “This initiative isn’t just for the participants; it strengthens the entire Service. The CGC’s recent election as Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) underscores the Service’s growing stature and its commitment to operational excellence. This training is a key part of enhancing their capacity to meet increasingly complex challenges.”
