Dr. Bashir Jamoh, the former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), has declared his intention to contest the Kaduna North Senatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 general elections. His announcement was made during the sidelines of the Honorary Moot Court Appearance and Debate Competition organised by Precision Chambers at the Faculty of Law, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.

Jamoh, who previously vied for the Kaduna State governorship in the 2023 elections, chose to step down of his own accord, supporting another candidate as advised. Now, he is reportedly receiving renewed calls from constituents in his zone to seek elective office, which is currently not occupied by the incumbent governor.

In his statements, Jamoh emphasised that he has begun consultations with key political stakeholders within his region to explore the possibility of running for the senatorial position. “I have written to important stakeholders in the region regarding the request for me to seek an elective position,” he said. “My stance is that I am prepared to offer myself for public service once again, but I am still consulting widely.”

Jamoh also took time to appreciate the efforts of students involved in organising the moot court and debate event, acknowledging its importance in fostering academic and civic engagement in Nigeria.

This move by Jamoh signals his continued commitment to public service and his desire to impact the political landscape of Kaduna North. As the 2027 elections approach, many will be watching to see how his bid progresses and how it influences the region’s political dynamics.
