Residents of the Bum community in Chugwi, Vwang District, Jos South Local Government Area, Plateau State, were thrown into mourning as a deadly attack disrupted New Year celebrations. The incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. on December 31, 2025, just as residents were preparing to welcome 2026.<\/p>\n

A statement from Rwang Tengwong, National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youths Moulder-Association (BYM), shared with journalists via the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) WhatsApp platform, said armed militants or bandits stormed the community, unleashing violence on unsuspecting residents.<\/p>\n

Bum community now joins a growing list of rural settlements in Plateau State affected by violent incidents, raising concerns about safety during festive periods.<\/p>\n

Comments from authorities were not yet available at the time of filing, as both Samson Zhakom, spokesperson for Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), and Alfred Alabo, spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, had not commented. The BYM statement had been shared on the OPEP and Police Command WhatsApp platforms.<\/p>\n

This latest attack adds to the growing list of violent assaults on innocent rural communities in Plateau State, further deepening concerns over the safety of lives and property, especially during festive periods meant for peace and celebration.<\/p>\n
