Fear gripped port users on Monday morning as a fully loaded tanker carrying diesel at about 7.45 am upturned on top of the Liverpool Bridge in Apapa, Lagos and spilt its contents. This is even as commuters and market women under the Liverpool market risked it all to scoop products from the tanker. Eyewitnesses told Beadysword blog.<\/div>\n

APapa authorities, including Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), as well as Police officers from the Area B police station, were immediately deployed to the scene to cordon off traffic to avoid an explosion. However, despite their presence, commuters were seen in a viral video risking it all to scoop products into buckets and jerricans. Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said the road leading to the bridge was initially closed to traffic following the incident. \u201cThe road on Liverpool bridge inward Apapa that was cordoned off has been reopened after the contents have been neutralised by men of Lagos State Fire Service,\u201d the agency said. \u201cLASTMA officials are doing the needful, and traffic is expected to move better while we await the arrival of a tow truck.\u201d Earlier, the traffic agency had warned motorists of delays and safety measures around the area.<\/div>\n

Fear spread among port users on Monday morning after a fully loaded diesel tanker overturned on the Liverpool Bridge in Apapa, Lagos, at about 7:45 a.m., spilling its contents. Despite the danger, some commuters and market women around the Liverpool Market were seen trying to scoop fuel from the fallen tanker.<\/p>\n

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and police officers from Area B Command were quickly deployed to the scene to control traffic and prevent a possible explosion. However, videos shared online showed people still risking their lives by collecting the spilt fuel with buckets and jerrycans.<\/p>\n

LASTMA later said the road leading to the bridge was temporarily closed after the incident.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe road on Liverpool Bridge inward Apapa that was cordoned off has now been reopened after the spilled product was neutralised by officers of the Lagos State Fire Service,\u201d the agency said.
\u201cLASTMA officials are on ground to manage traffic, and we are awaiting the arrival of a tow truck.\u201d<\/p>\n
