The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume has convened an emergency meeting with organised labour aimed at resolving the ongoing strike over the national minimum wage.<\/div>\n

<\/ins><\/center>This urgent gathering seeks to halt the strike that has severely disrupted various economic activities across Nigeria as Military personnel are currently seen\u00a0 stationed around the venue of the Organised Labour and Federal Government meeting.<\/p>\n

A Labour source revealed to journalist on Monday evening that the action is intended to intimidate Organised Labour, but the leaders remain steadfast.<\/p>\n

Confirming the development, Comrade Festus Osifo, President of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), spoke to Beadyswordblog, stating that leaders from both the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and TUC were en route to the SGF\u2019s office for the critical meeting.<\/p>\n

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SFG, George Akume, summoned the leadership of the organized labor\u00a0 for a meeting.<\/p>\n

While the source did not specify the reason for the meeting, it is likely linked to the minimum wage and the nationwide strike.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government has through the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, NSIWC, summoned a meeting of the tripartite committee on the new national minimum wage for tomorrow.<\/p>\n

T<\/b>he NSIWC had on May 31st met with organised labour but the negotiating team of the NLC and TUC walked out following government and organised private sector, OPS, refusal to go beyond the N60,000 they had earlier offered.<\/p>\n

Sources told Beadyswordblog\u00a0 \u00a0that the government is alarmed by the level of compliance and participation by workers in the first day of indefinite nationwide strike.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
