{"id":10657,"date":"2026-02-26T22:06:24","date_gmt":"2026-02-26T22:06:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/beadysword.com.ng\/blog\/?p=10657"},"modified":"2026-02-26T22:06:35","modified_gmt":"2026-02-26T22:06:35","slug":"atiku-obi-amaechi-other-opposition-leaders-reject-electoral-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beadysword.com.ng\/blog\/2026\/02\/26\/atiku-obi-amaechi-other-opposition-leaders-reject-electoral-act\/","title":{"rendered":"Atiku, Obi, Amaechi, other opposition leaders reject Electoral Act"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"mvp-content-body-top\" class=\"left relative\">\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\" class=\"left relative\">\n<p>Leaders of opposition political parties in Nigeria have kicked against the amended Electoral Act 2026, recently assented to by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.<\/p>\n<p>The opposition figures, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and other major party leaders, criticised the process through which the National Assembly passed the legislation, describing it as flawed.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at a press briefing, Ajuri Ahmed of the New Nigeria People\u2019s Party (NNPP) alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is strategising to position President Tinubu as the sole credible presidential contender ahead of the 2027 general elections.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-18\">\n<div align=\"center\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1524595905268-5\" data-_bound=\"1\" data-_defined=\"1\" data-google-query-id=\"CN2qnsGU-JIDFVNungYd4QcWhQ\">\n<div data-ad-curtain=\"placeholder\">\n<div data-ad-curtain=\"container\">\n<div data-ad-curtain=\"decoy\"><\/div>\n<div data-ad-curtain=\"curtain\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>He maintained that the data at their disposal indicate that results can be electronically transmitted from all polling units nationwide, questioning the rationale behind retaining a manual transmission provision in the new law.<\/p>\n<p>Ahmed further expressed shock at the swiftness with which the President approved the bill, noting that similar urgency was not shown in signing other pieces of legislation.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the recently concluded Federal Capital Territory (FCT) election demonstrates why the APC hurriedly pushed for the signing of the Electoral Act.<\/p>\n<p>The coalition of opposition leaders also dismissed the outcome of the FCT Area Council election, arguing that it served as a crucial test for the new Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, whom they believe failed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"mvp-content-bot\" class=\"left\">\n<div id=\"mvp-prev-next-wrap\" class=\"left relative\">\n<div class=\"mvp-next-post-wrap right relative\">\n<div class=\"mvp-prev-next-cont left relative\">\n<div class=\"mvp-next-cont-out left relative\">\n<div class=\"mvp-next-cont-in\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h4 class=\"mvp-widget-home-title\"><\/h4>\n<div class=\"mvp-cont-read-wrap\">\n<div id=\"mvp-related-posts\" class=\"left relative\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Leaders of opposition political parties in Nigeria have kicked against the amended Electoral Act 2026, recently assented to by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
