A revolt is brewing within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State ahead of the 2027 elections, with some party stakeholders warning that the crisis could cost the party its hold in the state.<\/p>\n
The concerns were raised by an APC integrity group in Ilorin, led by AbdulGaniyu Alani. The group accused Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of running the party like his personal project, saying loyal members, party elders, and grassroots supporters are being sidelined.<\/p>\n
According to the group, dissenting voices within the party are allegedly suppressed, while members who question leadership decisions face intimidation and political exclusion. They also claim that internal democracy has been weakened, with key decisions reportedly taken without proper consultation.<\/p>\n
The stakeholders pointed to allegations that party processes were altered at the last minute, describing this as a threat to party unity. They also raised complaints about governance, citing irregularities in state executive council meetings and accusing the administration of lacking transparency and accountability.<\/p>\n
On security, the group alleged that the government has been complacent, warning that the approach could worsen the fragile security situation in Kwara.<\/p>\n
They further claimed manipulation in the APC e-registration process, saying the KWASIP database allegedly tilted the exercise in favour of the Kwara Central Senatorial District. Despite what the government says about fairness, the group expressed concern that the APC may attempt to impose an unpopular candidate for the governorship in 2027\u2014specifically mentioning the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu.<\/p>\n
The group warned that imposing such a candidate could lead to mass defections, low voter enthusiasm, and protest voting against the APC. They also noted that the opposition is closely watching the situation and may benefit from the divisions within the ruling party.<\/p>\n
They called on the APC national leadership and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene urgently to restore inclusiveness and internal democracy.
