The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has urged the Federal High Court in Abuja to order the\u00a0permanent forfeiture of 57 properties\u00a0it says are linked to former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation,\u00a0Abubakar Malami (SAN), for the Federal Government.<\/p>\n
In a motion seeking a\u00a0final forfeiture, the EFCC told the court that the respondents did not present enough evidence to justify setting aside an earlier\u00a0interim forfeiture order. The EFCC\u2019s legal team is led by\u00a0Jibrin Okutepa (SAN)\u00a0and\u00a0Ekele Iheanacho (SAN), and the application is marked\u00a0FHC\/ABJ\/CS\/20\/2026.<\/p>\n
The motion named Malami and several other individuals and companies as respondents, including\u00a0Hajia Bashir Asabe,\u00a0Abiru\u2019 Rahman Abubakar Malami, as well as companies such as\u00a0Rayhaan Bustan and Agro Allied Ltd,\u00a0Mountain View Gold and Jewellery Ltd,\u00a0Amasdul Oil and Gas Ltd,\u00a0Azbir Arena Nigeria Ltd, and\u00a0Meethaq Hotels Ltd. It also listed other entities and individuals, including\u00a0Rayhaan University Ltd\/GTE,\u00a0Rayhaan Hotels Ltd,\u00a0Zeenoor Hotels Ltd, and\u00a0Real Edge Agro Services Ltd, among others.<\/p>\n
The EFCC said it is applying under\u00a0Section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud-Related Offences Act (No. 14 of 2006), describing the case as a\u00a0non-conviction-based asset forfeiture\u00a0process. According to the EFCC, the properties are\u00a0reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities.<\/p>\n
An EFCC investigating officer,\u00a0Daniel Adebayo, swore to an affidavit in support of the motion and said the commission received petitions alleging\u00a0corruption, abuse of office, and fraud against Malami. He also stated that the EFCC obtained and reviewed responses and records from agencies, including the\u00a0Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), the\u00a0Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), the\u00a0Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), and the\u00a0Abuja Geographical Information System (AGIS), as well as land registry bodies and other relevant institutions. The officer added that the EFCC also carried out visits to the properties and arranged valuations, and interviewed persons involved in the investigation.<\/p>\n
