A container vessel and an oil tanker collided at the Bonny Inner Anchorage on May 20, 2026, leaving five crew members injured and triggering an oil spill response.<\/p>\n
The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 hours between the container vessel MV MAERSK VALPARAISO and the oil tanker MT LADY MARTINA. Upon receiving the report, NIMASA’s Deep Blue Forward Operating Base quickly deployed armed personnel to assist.<\/p>\n
Five crew members aboard MT LADY MARTINA sustained injuries and were evacuated for medical treatment. The tanker is currently aground along the Bonny Channel, while MV MAERSK VALPARAISO remains at anchorage awaiting a damage assessment.<\/p>\n
NIMASA has launched a full investigation into the collision and established a Situation Monitoring Room to coordinate ongoing response efforts.
