Residents of Chikakore in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, are raising the alarm over the deteriorating condition of the Kubwa-Bwari road, accusing both the government and the contractor of abandoning the project as political activities for the 2027 elections take centre stage.<\/p>\n
The road, one of the busiest corridors linking several satellite communities to central Abuja, has become almost impassable in several sections. In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, an executive in the area described the road as being in its worst condition since construction began, warning that the situation could turn disastrous when the rainy season intensifies.<\/p>\n
“Since we have been using this Chikakore road, it has never been this bad,”<\/em>\u00a0the resident said while filming the damaged portions of the road.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Contractor Cites Lack of Funding<\/h2>\n
The residents identified SCC Company as the contractor handling the road project. According to the resident, when he visited the company’s office to inquire about the slow pace of work, he was told that government payments had been delayed \u2014 allegedly because attention had shifted to election campaign preparations.<\/p>\n
“They said the attention is on the election now and that they have not been paid or given money. They said all efforts to get the money from the government have not been given serious attention. So they told them it has to be after the campaign and all that,”<\/em>\u00a0he explained.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
The resident further warned that what happened to the Lebanese road in Abuja \u2014 which became completely dilapidated after contractor abandonment \u2014 could be repeated on the Kubwa-Bwari axis if urgent action is not taken.<\/p>\n
A Daily Nightmare for Commuters<\/h2>\n
The video footage showed heavily damaged sections of the road, with vehicles struggling to navigate through narrow, muddy passages. Motorists are forced to wait for oncoming vehicles before carefully passing through the treacherous stretches.<\/p>\n
“This vehicle has to wait for the other one to pass because this section is completely impossible,”<\/em>\u00a0the resident lamented.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
To make matters worse, an alternative bypass leading to Zone One has become unusable due to the destruction of drainage channels in the area. The resident called for immediate intervention \u2014 possibly the construction of new gutters \u2014 to prevent further damage when heavy rains fully set in.<\/p>\n
“The rain is coming. The rain has not fully started yet, but when it comes heavily, we are going to have serious problems,”<\/em>\u00a0he added.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Thousands Affected Daily<\/h2>\n
The Bwari-Kubwa road serves thousands of commuters daily \u2014 including traders, civil servants, students, and other residents who rely on it to connect satellite communities with central Abuja. Repeated complaints about poor infrastructure, abandoned projects, and worsening traffic congestion \u2014 especially during the rainy season when flooding and erosion render roads impassable \u2014 have gone largely unaddressed.<\/p>\n
Growing Frustration with FCTA<\/h2>\n
The latest outcry adds to mounting frustration among FCT residents over delayed infrastructure projects and deteriorating public roads, despite repeated promises by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and Minister Nyesom Wike of improved urban development and transportation networks.<\/p>\n
