The Nigerian police authorities have ordered personnel living in the Command Barracks in Owerri to vacate the premises, sources have told SaharaReporters.<\/p>\n

The reason for the directive remains unclear, but affected officers and their families have not been given any alternative accommodation. Sources also alleged that the barracks had been sold.\"\" \"\"<\/p>\n

“Officers and their families were told to leave the Command Barracks, but no alternative was provided,” a source said.<\/p>\n

According to the sources, the police authorities only issued a form for affected personnel to fill out by June 1, 2026. The form collects personal details, including bank account information.<\/p>\n

“The form asks for bank account details, supposedly for compensation if any is paid,” the source added.<\/p>\n

The development has sparked anger among affected personnel, many of whom are now uncertain about where to relocate with their families.<\/p>\n

“Affected officers are agitated. There is no alternative accommodation, and they now have to figure out where to stay with their families,” another source told SaharaReporters.<\/p>\n

SaharaReporters reached out to the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, for comment, but he did not answer calls or respond to messages at the time of filing this report.<\/p>\n

This comes amid similar concerns in Enugu State, where residents of several police barracks fear their homes have been sold to private individuals. A delegation of officials from the Police Works Department in Abuja, along with prospective buyers and estate surveyors, visited the barracks on May 20, 2026, to conduct a land survey.<\/p>\n

Sources allege that directives from Force Headquarters instructed Enugu officials to collect detailed occupant information, including force numbers, AP numbers, bank details, residential addresses, and phone numbers. The data compilation is reportedly part of plans to pay each occupant N1 million as relocation compensation before they vacate the barracks permanently.<\/p>\n
