The House of Representatives has passed a constitutional amendment bill that paves the way for the establishment of state police across Nigeria. This is a major step in the ongoing conversation about decentralising the country’s policing system to better tackle security challenges.<\/p>\n
The bill, officially titled “A Bill for an Act to Alter the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 to Provide for the Establishment of State Police; and for Related Matters (Sixth Alteration) Bill, 2026,” received overwhelming support\u2014288 votes in favour and only four against.<\/p>\n
