The Nigerian Federal Government has launched a program offering free registration for 250,000 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This initiative, approved by President Bola Tinubu, aims to reduce the financial burden on nano, micro, and small businesses, helping them integrate into the formal economy.<\/p>\n

Successful applicants will receive free Business Name registration through the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). The program also includes technical training and business development support.<\/p>\n

To apply, business owners need to visit the SMEDAN portal, create an account, and complete the registration form.<\/p>\n

The initiative was announced during the 8th National MSME Awards on June 27, 2026, highlighting the government’s commitment to improving business sustainability and growth in Nigeria.<\/p>\n

Under the programme, successful applicants will receive free Business Name registration through the CAC, with the Federal Government covering all statutory fees. In addition, beneficiaries will gain access to technical training, business development support, and opportunities aimed at strengthening sustainability and growth.<\/p>\n

The Presidency announced the initiative during the 8th National MSME Awards held at the State House, Abuja, on June 27.<\/p>\n

How to Apply<\/b><\/p>\n

  1. Business owners interested in the programme should:<\/li>\n
  2. Visit the official SMEDAN portal at portal.smedan.gov.ng. The\u00a0Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) portal at <\/span>portal.smedan.gov.ng<\/a><\/span><\/mark> is designed to formalise, support, and scale micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).<\/li>\n
  3. Create an account with their personal details (name, email, phone number, password)<\/li>\n
  4. Complete the MSME registration form with accurate business information<\/li>\n
  5. Select \u201cNo\u201d when asked if the business already has a CAC registration number<\/li>\n
  6. Review and submit the application<\/li>\n
  7. Await confirmation from SMEDAN if successful<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Businesses already listed on the SMEDAN database but without CAC registration may automatically qualify. Approved applicants will be contacted with the next steps for their free CAC Business Name registration.<\/p>\n

    The initiative stems from a Memorandum of Understanding signed between CAC and SMEDAN to formalise 250,000 enterprises nationwide.
