A video circulating on social media has sparked conversations within Nigeria’s fragrance community, with claims that some perfume vendors at Lagos Trade Fair Complex are protesting against the presence of the official Lattafa outlet in the market.<\/p>\n

According to the viral claims, some traders are unhappy that many customers now prefer buying directly from the Lattafa store after concerns were raised online about counterfeit perfumes allegedly being sold by some independent vendors. However, as of the time of writing, there is no official confirmation from Lattafa, the Trade Fair market authorities, or relevant agencies verifying that such a protest took place.<\/p>\n

Lattafa officially operates a retail outlet at the Trade Fair Complex in Lagos, where it sells products marketed as authentic fragrances from the brand.<\/p>\n

The discussion has also been fueled by fragrance reviewers and content creators, including Opeyemi Famakin, who have encouraged consumers to verify the authenticity of perfumes before making purchases. While many shoppers believe buying directly from an authorized outlet provides greater confidence, allegations that “some products are fake” remain broad claims unless supported by regulatory findings or evidence against specific sellers.<\/p>\n

The issue of counterfeit and unregistered cosmetic products is not new. Recently, NAFDAC carried out enforcement operations at the Trade Fair Complex, shutting several shops over suspected unregistered cosmetic products and launching further investigations. Those actions were based on regulatory concerns and should not be interpreted as proof that all traders in the market sell counterfeit goods.<\/p>\n

If the reports of the protest are accurate, they highlight the growing competition between authorized brand stores and independent retailers. Consumers are increasingly prioritising authenticity, transparent pricing, and trusted sources when purchasing perfumes.<\/p>\n

At the same time, many legitimate independent perfume vendors continue to build their businesses by sourcing genuine products and maintaining customer trust. The presence of an official brand outlet does not necessarily imply that every other retailer sells counterfeit items.<\/p>\n

As the story continues to develop, shoppers are encouraged to purchase fragrances from reputable sellers, verify product authenticity where possible, and wait for official statements before drawing conclusions from viral social media posts.<\/p>\n
