The Nigerian government has taken a significant step to revive the country’s maritime industry by unlocking the long-stalled\u00a0Cabotage Vessel Financing Fund (CVFF)<\/strong>. For the first time in about two decades, eligible shipowners can now access financing of up to\u00a0$25 million<\/strong>\u00a0to acquire vessels.<\/p>\n

This move, championed by Minister Adegboyega Oyetola, is designed to strengthen the indigenous shipping sector, reduce foreign dominance, and keep more economic value within Nigeria.<\/p>\n

According to the Minister, the government has already received\u00a092 applications<\/strong>, with\u00a020 already forwarded to lending institutions<\/strong>\u00a0for review. To make access easier, the number of participating banks has also been increased from\u00a0five to twelve<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Beyond helping individual shipowners, the initiative is expected to boost related sectors like\u00a0shipbuilding and maritime logistics<\/strong>. Industry projections suggest it could create\u00a0over 30,000 jobs<\/strong>\u00a0and help develop the skilled manpower Nigeria needs in the maritime field.<\/p>\n

The move also aligns with the Tinubu administration’s broader goal of strengthening Nigeria’s position in\u00a0global maritime trade<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
