The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, has announced the seizure of a 2026 Range Rover Sport and other contraband goods with a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N2.47 billion<\/p>\n
The seizures were made between August 14 and September 17, according to the Area Comptroller, Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, who disclosed this at a news conference on Thursday in Idiroko.<\/p>\n
Afeni said the seizures were recorded at various locations in the state through improved operational strategies, intelligence-led enforcement and enhanced inter-agency collaboration. He attributed them to the command’s sustained anti-smuggling operations and efforts to strengthen border security.<\/p>\n
“Despite prevailing economic challenges along our land borders, the command has maintained a firm stance on legitimate trade facilitation while also ensuring maximum revenue collection,” he said.<\/p>\n
The comptroller said diligent duty collection, baggage assessment and physical examination at designated points had contributed millions of naira to the Federation Account. He added that the command had addressed traditional trans-border bottlenecks and optimised import and export verification processes to facilitate compliant trade, while maintaining strict regulatory oversight on sensitive goods.<\/p>\n
Items Seized
\nAfeni listed the items seized between August 14 and September 17 as:<\/p>\n
1,204 bags of foreign parboiled rice
\n3,893 parcels of cannabis indica
\n428 pieces of pneumatic tyres
\n8,675 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS)
\n24 bales of second-hand clothes
\nFour sacks of used shoes
\n500 litres of diesel packed in kegs
\nHe said the seizures recorded during the period had a total DPV of N2,469,153,523.68.<\/p>\n
Range Rover Valued at N417m
\nAfeni said the seizure of a 2026 Range Rover Sport Autobiography P530, valued at N417.01 million among other items, demonstrated the command’s zero-tolerance policy toward economic sabotage.<\/p>\n
He reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s economic interests and national security.<\/p>\n
The Comptroller warned perpetrators of economic sabotage and illegal border activities to desist from such acts, saying the command would continue to enforce the law against such practices.<\/p>\n
