{"id":1428,"date":"2024-06-29T09:08:26","date_gmt":"2024-06-29T09:08:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/beadysword.com.ng\/blog\/?p=1428"},"modified":"2024-06-29T09:08:32","modified_gmt":"2024-06-29T09:08:32","slug":"immigration-officer-jailed-over-n800000-scam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beadysword.com.ng\/blog\/2024\/06\/29\/immigration-officer-jailed-over-n800000-scam\/","title":{"rendered":"Immigration Officer Jailed Over N800,000 Scam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gombestate.gov.ng\/\">Gombe State<\/a> High Court has sentenced an Immigration officer, Dabiet Onyemi Gilbert, to one year in prison for defrauding a job seeker of N800,000.<\/p>\n<p>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, prosecuted Gilbert on a one-count charge of obtaining by false pretence.<\/p>\n<p>The EFCC had received a petition from the victim and investigated the case, leading to the prosecution and conviction of the fraudster.<\/p>\n<p>Justice H.H Kereng of the State High Court sentenced Gilbert.<\/p>\n<p>In a related development, Justice Muazu Abubakar of the Bauchi State High Court sentenced one Saleh Haruna to five years in prison for forgery and intent to defraud.<\/p>\n<p>Haruna was accused of conspiring with one Mohammed Mustapha Sallah to defraud a victim of N950,000, posing as a land seller.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the EFCC has also arraigned Mohammed Mustapha Sallah, Haruna\u2019s alleged accomplice, on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, forgery, and intent to defraud.<\/p>\n<p>His case has been adjourned until July 8, 2024, for hearing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gombe State High Court has sentenced an Immigration officer, Dabiet Onyemi Gilbert, to one year in prison for defrauding a job seeker of N800,000.
