{"id":1518,"date":"2024-07-04T09:13:20","date_gmt":"2024-07-04T09:13:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/beadysword.com.ng\/blog\/?p=1518"},"modified":"2024-07-04T09:13:28","modified_gmt":"2024-07-04T09:13:28","slug":"dr-congo-attack-china-confirms-citizens-dead-missing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beadysword.com.ng\/blog\/2024\/07\/04\/dr-congo-attack-china-confirms-citizens-dead-missing\/","title":{"rendered":"DR Congo Attack: China Confirms Citizens Dead, Missing"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"post-content\">\n<p>China confirmed Thursday that an armed attack in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) left several of its citizens dead or missing.<\/p>\n<p>Local sources told AFP on Wednesday that a militia attack on a mining site in gold-rich Ituri province killed at least four Chinese nationals.<\/p>\n<p>Beijing\u2019s foreign ministry said a private Chinese company in the DRC \u201cwas attacked by armed forces, resulting in the death and disappearance of several Chinese nationals\u201d, without specifying the number.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChina expresses its strong condemnation of this attack,\u201d ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at a regular press conference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe demand that the DRC side hunts down the killers as quickly as possible and strictly punishes them in accordance with the law,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Attacks on mining sites and convoys are common in the DRC, as are conflicts over gold between Congolese residents and Chinese miners.<\/p>\n<div class=\"read-also\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Some of the local sources attributed Wednesday\u2019s incident to a militia group, Codeco, which claims to defend the interests of the Lendu tribe against the rival Hema tribe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere has been an incursion by the Codeco into the Chinese mining site\u201d, not far from the town of Abombi in the Djugu territory of Ituri, provincial deputy Jean-Pierre Bikilisende told AFP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a first provisional toll of four Chinese killed and two FARDC (Congolese army) members wounded,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Other local sources put the death toll at six Chinese nationals, along with their bodyguards, two Congolese soldiers and two civilians.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>China confirmed Thursday that an armed attack in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) left several of its citizens dead or missing.
